Staples defeats Fitch
The banged - up Wreckers (6- 14), who also have had their fair share of injuries this season,
competed in the Maloney Duals Saturday and was able to beat Fitch 35 - 33 but lost to the host team Maloney 68 - 12, E. O. Smith 55 - 24, Weston 50 - 30 and Montville 59 - 24. Staples had so many injuries by the end of the day it had to forfeit eight weight classes against Montville. Mikell Washington
(220 pounds) remained undefeated on the season at 21 - 0 by going 5 - 0 with four pins. Justin Ludel (113) went 4 - 1 with two pins and a technical fall over Fitch, Alex Kogstad (138) garnered three wins with one pin, Alex Brown (132) and Mike O’Day (145) each came away with two wins and a pin and Henry Betar (285) had two pins, including one that sealed the team’s victory. Stephan Patterson (160) also had a key win against Fitch. Freshman Alexander Baumann (112) went 1 - 2 in JV action and now has a 10 - 5 overall record.
